BRICKHILL TIGERS

The story so far....

Brickhill Tigers legacy began in SL5, taking over the licence of the now defunct Petersfield Pirates.  In our first full season, we gained promotion, finishing 2nd in Division 3.  SL6 was also significant in that it saw the first team debut of a 20 year old Curtis Doolan.  Our future two times World Champon achieved an impressive GSA of 7.51 in his first full season.  In the subsequent 12+ years Doolan's average has never slipped below this mark!!

SL7 saw us consolidate our position in Division 2, finishing in a respectable 6th place.  A magnificent Knockout Cup run saw us reach the final, only losing out to Walsall Swifts.

SL8 saw the Brickhill Tigers become a major force in the Sovereign League, with a year of unprecedented success.  A club record points total of 69 secured us top flight Speedway as we claimed the Division 2 title.  It didn't stop there, as the Tigers squad also claimed their first Knockout Cup win to deny Eastbourne Seagulls a league and cup double.  Plus, there was a thrilling victory in the 4TT Final to claim the trophy there too.  It didn't end there however, as club legend Curtis Doolan claimed his first World Title at the age of 22.

SL9 saw no trophies as we finished 6th in our first season in Division 1.

SL10 saw Brickhill reach the summit of the Sovereign League as we were crowned League Champions.  The Divisional Cup was also making its way into the Tigers trophy cabinet, as well as a near miss in the 4TT where we finished runners up.

Despite scoring 5 more points in SL11, 2nd place was the best we could manage, although the trophies kept coming with victories once again in the 4TT.  And for the first time, the Pairs Championship.  Curtis Doolan also won his 2nd World Title, and his GP record now had an impressive look to it.

SL12 saw another solid season as Brickhill became the first team ever to retain the Pairs Championship.  Plus, there was another 2nd place in the 4TT final, finding only the mighty Eastbourne Seagulls standing in their way.

No trophies in SL13, but that was the least of the Brickhill promotions worries.  The local council had agreed to sell off the stadium to developers, leaving the Tigers homeless and without a league place in SL14!!  The squad was disbanded and for a time it looked like the end of the road. However just before the start of the season, the newly formed Leicester Bees ran into financial difficulty, and the Brickhill promotion moved swiftly to take over the licence.  The stadium issue was solved in part, with a new agreement in place to race at the Tigers old training track, despite minimal facilities.  The Brickhill promotion were literally starting again from scratch.

Despite the odds, a 2nd place finish in Division 3 meant promotion at the first attempt!

Even better was to come in SL15 as back to back promotions meant the Tigers were back in Division 1.

Despite the tiny stadium and even smaller budget, the team managed a fantastic 2nd place in the top flight at the first attempt.

Sadly the lack of finance began to take its toll as the management struggled to find a top Heatleader and a 7th placed finish in SL17 was followed by relegation in SL18, with the Tigers finishing bottom.

Things were looking up in SL19 however.

Curtis Doolan was once again leading from the front, and Czech No.1 Ales Pokorny was also showing what he could do, establishing himself as a top Heatleader in Division 2.  And with both Alan Clark (signed for a bargain £36,000) and Aussie No.1 Joel Slater both racking up the points, the Brickhill top four once again had a formidable look.

The season finished on a high note, with promotion sealed once again to Division 1.
